Heesen Yachts announces that it has delivered its largest yacht to date, a 70m all-aluminum fast displacement superyacht named Galactica Super Nova. Heesen's engineers started working with Dutch naval architects from van Oossanen in December 2013 to craft this magnificent yacht. They intended to deliver the yacht within just 41 months, a feat that few builders could accomplish. Thanks to over 35 years of experience, the companies managed to meet the deadline.
Heesen took Galactica Super Nova to the North Sea at the end of April for four days of sea trials. The builders were contractually obligated to deliver a yacht that could reach a maximum speed of 30 knots. During the sea trials, they managed to exceed that obligation by 0.3 knots. The captain and crewmates noted that Galactica Super Nova offers a quiet ride and was to maneuver in diverse conditions.
Galactica Super Nova was able to reach 30.3 knots thanks to two MTU wing engines and a central engine fitted to a Rolls Royce booster water jet. This seems to be the first time any builder has installed that particular combination in a superyacht. Considering that the vessel can travel from zero to 30 knots within just 75 seconds shows that Heesen made the right decision.
Of course, Heesen and its partners also paid close attention to the superyacht's aesthetic. Designer Espen Øino has built a stunning exterior that makes Galactica Super Nova a sight to behold.
Galactica Super Nova and her owners plan to spend time in the Mediterranean, but the innovative superyacht will make an appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show in September. That's when yachting enthusiasts will get to learn more about this large beauty.
