This is not the first time that renowned SuperYacht designer Malcolm McKeon and Vitters Shipyard have collaborated on a new project, but it is the first time that McKeon has done so from the drawing boards of his own design studio and the result is a stunning, contemporary high-performance cruising boat named Missy. The carbon fiber hull was built by Green Marine, a UK based subsidiary of Vitters, and it was then transported over the Netherlands to Vitters Shipyard where construction was completed.
It’s clear that the owners wanted a modern, stylish look to both the hull shape and interior layout but what’s different is that a good deal of emphasis has been placed on crew and guest comfort as well as a sense of communal living below decks. Where usually the galley is decidedly separate from the owners living space, on Missy the galley has been included into the saloon area resulting in a look and feel more akin to apartment living than life on a sailing yacht.
For design enthusiasts the mostly glass canopy provides an open and airy feel to the saloon and is a welcome departure from the typical superstructure/windscreen arrangement more often seen aboard sailing Superyachts. The glass superstructure features heat reflective interlayers, helping to keep the saloon cool in warmer climates. It also allows natural light to enhance the interior styling which was done by Design Unlimited. The yacht also benefits from a fully automated bimini and dodger system that, when stowed, sits flush with the low profile superstructure.
It’s clear that the 33 meter Missy is a boat that will turn heads later this year on a shake-down sail to the Caribbean and beyond that as the owners are planning a worldwide cruise.
