Launch of Benetti 107m Helps Set the Tone for Giga Season

Within the greater yachting community, there is no doubt that Benetti’s famous “Giga Season” is one of the most exciting times of the year. During Giga Season, yacht enthusiasts of all kinds will have an opportunity to witness some of the largest and most spectacular yachts in the industry. It is not unusual for this remarkable time of the year to leave profound impacts on other shipbuilders all around the world.

However, while Benetti’s Giga Season is seemingly always a success, the debut that occurred during December 2018 may have been the most exciting to date. After making its initial launch in Livorno, Tuscany, Benetti’s 107 meter FB277 has established herself as the “biggest ever (motor yacht) built in Italy by a private shipyard.” As fans begin to admire her sheer size and dominance of the seas, it becomes immediately apparent why Benetti is widely regarded as one of the most respected names in the world of shipbuilding.

No Compromises, No Apologies

Moving across the open water, FB277 projects dominance and sophistication in a way that few other ships are capable of doing. Between the helipad, the well-equipped gym, the grand piano, the outdoor swimming pool, and the ample amounts of outdoor deck space, it becomes clear that there was nothing excluded from this aluminum masterpiece. However, due to her impressive size, the space rarely feels crowded or overdone.

The yacht has already been described as “a stunning creation of epic proportions. From the exterior, her elongated and liner profile, emphasized by balanced ribbons of glazing, speak to the admirer of contemporary and minimal design.” As evidenced by her brutalist sense of beauty, the design team’s efforts to create an all-inclusive yacht while utilizing the virtues of minimalist design have certainly not gone unnoticed.

Tapping into a Rich History of Tradition

With a history dating back to 1873, Benetti prides themselves as the “oldest Italian shipyard specialized in luxury yachts.” Though they have engaged in remarkable collaborative efforts in the past, the owners and the team decided to keep the design and construction process primarily in-house. Consequently, the character of this ship is one that is able to uniquely blend the company’s tremendous history with the styles and technologies of the modern era.

Naturally, the company has been able to experiment with many different design styles over time, making it possible to know which features work and which ones do not work. The design team carefully listened to all input from the owner and, simultaneously, sought to create a record-breaking watercraft that could cross the open ocean without rivalry.

Setting the Tone for the Rest of the Year

Though it has only been a matter of weeks since FB277 made her debut to the world, she has already attracted the attention of the entire yachting industry. However, despite her sheer brilliance, this is only just the beginning. Over the course of the next few months, there are (at least) two more Gigayachts that are expected to be launched from Livorno.

With one new record already in the books, there is no doubt that this Giga Season has already been quite successful. If the future yachts are capable of matching even a fraction of what Benetti’s FB277 has already demonstrated, then the yachting community at-large will certainly be in for a treat.
