Columbus Sport Superyacht has been launched

The impressive 50m Columbus Sport M/Y K2 has been launched and has undertaken her first sea trials.

Built at Columbus Yachts' Ancona shipyard in Italy, she features sleek lines and a vertical bow.

The naval architecture sees the hull being engineered to guarantee a high level of comfort, regardless of rough sea conditions.

Indeed, the yacht builders say the Columbus Sport will become an 'icon of sportiness and elegance' and has been developed from their 40-meter yachts.

Columbus Yachts is a subdivision of Palumbo Superyachts, and they have worked with Hydro Tec to conjure up the design.

Columbus Yacht K2 review

Luca Dini Design & Architecture

There are three decks, and K2's interior design and the external lines have been created by Luca Dini Design & Architecture.

The design effortlessly blends sophistication and sportiness in an innovative package.

There is also lots of natural light with an expanse of glazed surfaces, plus there's an on-deck Jacuzzi.

Guests also get to enjoy uninterrupted views of the K2's surroundings because of the way in which the outer gunwale has been designed.

She is a one-of-a-kind yacht with an aluminum hull and superstructure with a gross tonnage of 499, and a maximum draft of 2.2 meters (7-ft) enables the yacht to sail in shallow waters.

'Unprecedented solutions' to meet the owner's requests

This is the third yacht the owner has created with Palumbo Superyachts and the designers have had to deliver several 'unprecedented solutions' to meet the owner's requests.

The ability to meet owner requests underlines the flexibility of the semi-custom build opportunities.

This is the largest Sport yacht launched by Columbus to date, and there's room on board for 11 guests in five comfortable cabins, with a crew of 11 sharing seven cabins.

Power comes from two 2,600hp MTU engines, and she has a cruising speed of 17 kn and a top speed of 21.5 kn with the capability of undertaking long ocean journeys.

Columbus adds that the yacht is also very fuel-efficient at low speeds.

Guest cabins have extremely low noise levels

The sea trials revealed that the guest cabins have extremely low noise levels - even at 85% of engine power - which was one of the designers' aims.

The yacht also has a range of toys, including a jet ski, jet board inflatables, and a RIB rescue boat.

K2 is set to make her official debut at September's Monaco yacht show, where she is set to be admired as a timeless superyacht.
