Emirates' $150 Million Refit Launches in Ft. Lauderdale

Displaying two-class ticketing with a 2-2-2 business class cabin configuration, the first of 10 restyled Emirates Boeing 777-200LR aircraft boarded in Ft. Lauderdale on Mar. 6, 2018. Rolling out a posh menu of changes designed to make overseas flights more enjoyable, Emirates chose the FLL to DXB route as the first to experience the new look.

Farewell, Middle Row

Emirates newly refurbished Boeing 777-200LROne of the biggest changes is the 2-2-2 seating in the Business Class cabin, eliminating the cumbersome middle row layout. Each cushy, lie-flat seat gained two inches in width along with the assurance that no one would be stumbling toward aisle access across a slumbering passenger. The new, two-class cabin arrangement offers 38 Business Class and 264 Economy Class seats. The Economy cabin is arranged in a 3-4-3 configuration.

Business Class Micro Lounge

Should a passenger prefer a more robust snack than what is offered in the personal minbar dedicated to each Business Class seat, there is good news. Tucked into the center of the Business Class cabin, a small, self-service snack and beverage area allows passengers to quickly access crisps, sandwiches, fruit, and drinks. Unique to this aircraft, the lounge stands in complement to the fine, full service, regional cuisine found on board Emirates flights, accompanied by exclusive wine, spirits, and Champagne selections.

Additional Creature Comforts

The 72-inch pitch, lie-flat sleeping position Business Class seats are touchscreen controlled and outfitted with privacy panels between seats. Lighting options and ICE (Information, Communication, Entertainment) In Flight screens measuring 23" in width are also touchscreen controlled. Entertainment options include 3,000 channels on demand, 600 movies, 200 hours of television programming and a vast selection of international music. Wi-Fi and live TV are accessible from both cabins.

Updated Palette and Overall Design

Business Class seats crafted of diamond-stitched leather in a subtle, champagne-inspired hue are accented with wood grain trim. A shoe compartment, footrest, and electronic window covers keep things comfortable and orderly.

Ergonomically designed Economy Class seats have been updated in soothing blues and greys, with leather headrests sporting flexible side panels for support.

Removing overhead bins from the center of the cabin contributes to a more spacious, open feel throughout the aircraft. The Ghaf tree, a national symbol of the United Arab Emirates, is featured on the stylish bulkhead design of the Business Class cabin, establishing it as a signature on board. Adding to onboard charm, tiny LED lights embedded overhead simulate stars in the night sky.

Exceptional Emirates Service

Awarded the Best Airline in the World and Best Economy Class titles by TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards in 2017, Emirates continually surprises and delights passengers. Recent advertising suggests instead of asking for a seat upgrade, the better option would be simply to upgrade your airline to Emirates.

Its 11th US route, Emirates first launched service to Ft. Lauderdale in December of 2016, adding to existing operations in Orlando. Serving Miami, Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and much of South Florida, the airline operates four direct flights weekly from Ft. Lauderdale to Dubai, with connecting flights to more than 50 additional destinations throughout the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific.

Destinations for the remainder of the newly redesigned 777-200LR aircraft will be announced throughout the year, with the expectation that Brisbane, Australia, and Santiago, Chile will join Ft. Lauderdale on the list.
