Bugatti Divo World Premiere: “Made For Corners”

There will only ever be 40 units of this extremely limited model. The maximum speed is 380 km/h, shaving eight seconds from the Chiron’s time for a lap around the Nardò handling circuit. It boasts an eight-liter W16 engine and 1,500 PS power output. It sold out immediately. And the price? Five million Euros. We are talking about Bugatti’s latest pièce de résistance, the Divo.

The Divo was named for French racing great Albert Divo, two-time winner of Targa Florio, a race threading the turns around the mountains of Sicily. The breathtaking motorsport masterpiece debuted at The Quail in Monterey, CA this past August. Made for hugging curvy, winding roads, the Divo is also built for speed, with a 1.6 g boost to lateral acceleration and a heavier downforce hand than the Chiron by 90 kg at 456. It is nimble. It is fast. And, it handles like a dream. Improved aerodynamics, tweaked suspension and chassis, and 35 kg whittled off its weight, Divo gives up nothing carving corners.

Bugatti President Stephan Winkelmann claims that Divo’s higher performance, lateral acceleration, and agility come together to define the Divo as a machine “Made for corners.” Wanting to build a sports car that was decidedly Bugatti but yet a departure from the Chiron, Bugatti wanted to further the brand with something new, yet fully embrace the brand’s perfectly balanced mix of high performance, straight-line dynamics, and luxurious comfort.

Entirely new front end architecture, improved brake cooling, vertical stance headlights, slimmer sideline, elements of Divo Carbon, and a palette embracing Divo Racing Blue all set this model apart. The rear grille, incorporating 44 individual 3-D fins that light up in a sophisticated cluster, emerges in narrow streaks from the center of the body to wider, more intense lighting at the outer edge. Striking and unmistakable, the pattern seen in the taillights is owned by the Divo.

With an emphasis on reviving Bugatti coachbuilding in Molsheim, the Divo adheres to Bugatti's inner values, believing that ”Form Follows Performance,” and the leaders at Bugatti promise continued innovation without sacrificing luxury or performance.

“The Divo is a further project intended to thrill people and the world,” Winkelmann announced. The response would seem to underscore Divo’s success.
