True to Perini Navi form, their chic and sleek 42-meter E-Volution sloop-rigged sailing yacht displays trendsetting innovations and style. This new look from Perini Navi caught the eye of an experienced Italian sailing enthusiast, prompting his purchase of the first hull. The buyer was attracted to the E-Volution’s combination of form and function, promising exceptional seakeeping, competitive blue water performance, abundant creature comforts, and top-of-industry tech.
Fashioned by the hand of Perini Navi Head of Design Franco Romani, this first unit of the E-Volution line reinforces the group’s venerable history while emphasizing forward-thinking, innovative features to deliver a sailing yacht that is both a serious sailor and stylish, comfortable cruiser. Announced at the 2017 Monaco Yacht Show, the yacht’s naval architecture is credited to American creative force, Reichel/Pugh Yacht Design, paired with impeccable interiors from Italy’s Marco Costanzi Architects.
Equipped with a 6LY400 292 kW Yanmar engine, this nimble hybrid also has a 200 kW E-Motion electric motor, enabling super quiet coastal cruising and a 3,200 nm range at 10 knots. The electric motor also acts as an electrical generator. Additional equipment on board includes a 180 kW generator and two 57 kW thrusters. Designer Jim Pugh highlighted the great balance and seaworthiness of the yacht, citing her powerful, easy to manage sail plan as suitable for long, autonomous journeys.
The 56-meter aluminum tube mast works beautifully with the carbon fiber fittings, boom, spreaders, and rigging. A total sail area of 2,367 square meters contributes speed and maneuverability, in tandem with the plumb bow and elegant shoreline. The first boat built entirely in aluminum at the Perini Navi Viareggio yard, the yacht is contemporary, streamlined, and performance oriented.
The clever deck design houses a pop-up dining pit with Japanese style seating forward of the deckhouse. Whether under cover of the stretch awning or tucked below for racing, the foredeck is minimalist design perfection. Dedicated, below-deck sail drum storage and carbon fiber helm pods to the aft of the dining area ensure uninterrupted movement and easy-to-use outdoor spaces.
The smooth deckhouse is well appointed with light furnishings in neutral tones, kept cheery with lots of natural light. Able to tuck in 10 guests in four cabins with a master suite and a possible bonus room 5th cabin or cinema, the yacht also has three crew cabins housing six crew and a captain. The overhanging deckhouse protects lounge and dining areas in the aft cockpit.
A folding transom door opens up to access the sea level swim platform. Stairs to port and starboard offer easy interdeck entertaining, with posh lounges posted in the most appropriate spots for a great view and relaxing swim.
