Eighty-four years ago this June, a white Mercedes-Benz W25 racing car was preparing for the Eifel Grand Prix. Tipping the scales in Nürburgring at a single kilogram over the 750-kilogram limit, the manager of the Mercedes-Benz team ordered the white paint ground from the body of the car, making weight and leaving the bare silver surface sparkling in the sun.
A win that day, followed by an impressive record of wins by the gleaming silver racing car and others following in its path, prompted the moniker Silver Arrow. With great respect for that racing car history, Silver Arrows Marine created the Arrow 460-Granturismo, a 14-meter/46’ luxury motor yacht, in the grand tradition of elegance, innovation, and beautiful design bearing the Mercedes-Benz Style brand.
Building on Automotive Excellence
Created by Silver Arrows Marine Ltd, this first hull of the Arrow 460-Granturismo spent four years in development, employing extensive research and rigorous analysis with real world testing prototypes. Collaborative efforts from Silver Arrows Marine, Mercedes Benz Style, Wolz Nautic Italy, and Swiss Interior Haut Design transformed concept to reality with exceptional detail.
Measuring exactly 14.17 meters/46’6”, the appropriately named “Mercedes” displays all the qualities expected from such prestigious vehicle lineage. Powered by twin Yanmar six-cylinder diesel engines she delivers 353kW/480hp at 3300 rpm, respecting the low NVH in keeping with Granturismo tradition while revving up to an expected 38-knot top speed, cruising easily at 26 knots.
The Twin Disc QuickShift transmission and electronic control system is fitted with a logical response Express Joystick that makes for easy maneuvering, even by a newly minted yachtsman, using direction and pressure to guide movement. The further the joystick is moved, the faster Mercedes will go, in perfect parallel with joystick direction. An instant override upon release of the joystick makes for safe, precise docking and maneuvering. Additionally, the QuickShift transmission smoothly moves from full forward to full reverse in a fractional second, erasing the jolt and mechanical stress that often accompanies such operation.
Advancing motor yacht navigation with ABS-inspired technology, first appearing in Mercedes-Benz S models of the late 70s, it is an impressive feature on this finely-tuned yacht. Contributing to the overall performance in a refined, effortless way that accommodates a variety of sea conditions, Mercedes excels by delivering, “all-round performance with great comfort and ease of handling,” to quote Silver Arrows Marine Chief Executive Officer Jacopo Spadolini.
