Sanlorenzo's Seven Sins Reunites Builder and Client

Reunions can be emotional, embracing a broad sweep of passions that touch upon man's virtues as well as his frailties. Bringing a yachtsman back to the nautical roots of a beloved boat is no exception. Pride and envy, balanced by faith, patience, and diligence, recently emerged from Sanlorenzo's La Spezia shed to illustrate the stunning outcome of such a reunion for a Belgian businessman and an Italian shipyard.

Nearly four decades ago, the businessman and young yachtsman bought his first Sanlorenzo vessel. The 60-foot boat, constructed of plywood, was the largest built to date at the Italian yard. Fast forward to 2017, through two yachts built with Heesen in their Dutch yards, to the owner's newest version of the motor yacht Seven Sins, for a client/industry reunion showcasing the first hull of Sanlorenzo's 52Steel line.

The Opportunity

Upon learning of a yacht already in build by Sanlorenzo, left incomplete a year from launch by a client decision, the Belgian saw an opening. With much of the heavy lifting done, he and his partners stepped in to make this yacht their own.
Tweaking the plans toward the group's wishes for an intense charter yacht that was also a comfortable family cruising yacht, designers and engineers were consulted to fashion a suitable vessel using the existing structure. Tapping Mauro Micheli's Officina Italiana Design studio, and interior design expert Tiziana Vercellesi, Motor Yacht Seven Sins began to take shape as a semi-custom, 5-deck, 499GT superyacht.

The Statistics

A 52-meter steel and aluminum yacht, Seven Sins presents a striking profile. Long strips of black glazing make an exterior statement between her five decks that allows generous natural light to brighten the interior. She has a 9.3-meter beam and 2.65-meter draft.

Equipped with two 1900hp MTU 12V 2000M63 engines and a fuel capacity increased to 68,000 liters from the original 55,000, Seven Sins capably cruises 4,400 nm at 11 knots, upping her speed to 17 knots when prompted. She has two steering positions, one in the wheelhouse on the upper deck and another on the sky deck, a location preferred by the owner on occasion.

The vessel accommodates ten guests in 5 cabins, served by nine crew. In addition to the owner's suite, two double en-suite cabins and two twin en-suite cabins are located on the lower deck. An additional guest cabin can be reserved across from the captain's quarters in a space normally used as an office.

Clever design and engineering allow Seven Sins into the sub-500 GT category. External areas not required to be included in the calculations make Seven Sins feel like a 600 GT yacht, with lots of light, fresh, open living area.

The Highlights

One of the most striking features on Seven Sins is the delightful combination of the glass-bottomed pool on the main deck with the multi-purpose deck below. Filtering light to the space on the lower deck, the glass on the bottom of the pool delivers both aesthetic and functional appeal.

Below the pool, a float-in tender garage welcomes boats up to 8 meters, making guest transfer safe and easy. When the tender is removed, a teak-soled floor can be lowered to create a large beach club, made even more magical by the glittering light through the glass pool floor above. The pool is fitted with beautiful night lighting that sets a sublime mood for memorable entertaining. Further expanding the space, terraces to port and starboard open up the beach club for a fresh, beautiful view that pleases both sun- and shade-seeking guests.

Glass bulwarks and cutaways along the expanse of huge windows to port and starboard offer a blissfully uninterrupted view, whether from the main deck salons, the owner's suite, or the deck spaces.
