Another dive into Lürssen’s captivating portfolio, and amidst its masterpieces, the 72.5m Coral Ocean stands out as a beacon of innovation. Originally christened in 1994 as M/Y Coral Island, her impact reverberated throughout the yachting community. Thanks to Lürssen’s collaboration with the esteemed London-based Bannenberg & Rowell Design, Coral Ocean inherited a legacy that had already bloomed in 1971 with the iconic Carinthia VI and yet Coral Island under the mastery of designer Jon Bannenberg, known as the godfather of modern yacht design, continued raising the bar for both firms.

Although not the most colossal or the swiftest of Lürssen’s esteemed output, Coral Island’s design was nothing short of revolutionary. Her exceptional amenities, such as the spa with steam room, a gym, a window into its mosaic pool, and colossal shell doors that opened the salon to expansive sea views, harmonized luxury with nature. This, combined with an interior rich in organic materials like exotic woods, laced with influences from African and Polynesian cultures, made Coral Island a testament to impeccable craftsmanship.

Pioneer Voyage on Foil-Assisted Wings

In the serene stretch of water encompassing the Baltic Yachts’ headquarters in Jakobstad, Finland, an unprecedented maritime saga unfurled as the Baltic 111 Raven elegantly sailed, heralding a new era of nautical innovation. S/Y Raven, with her foil-assisted design, isn’t merely a superyacht; she’s a harbinger of a transformative wave in sailing, melding exquisite design with cutting-edge technology. Her hydrofoil system, a marvel in yacht engineering, places her in a league of her own, pushing the boundaries of what’s conceivable on water.

S/Y Raven’s hydrofoil system veers from traditional designs that have long defined superyachts. The hydrofoils, mounted on adjustable side arms, are engineered to support a significant portion of the superyacht’s displacement, a feature vividly demonstrated during her sea trials where she attained sustained speeds in the high twenties. This technology augments her speed and enhances her stability, delivering an unrivaled sailing experience.

Monaco, any day of the year, is simply exquisite. During the annual yacht show, however, Monaco takes exquisite by the hand and shows her what this luxurious lifestyle is really all about. For five busy days, NAVIS met and mingled with the industry’s best, learning with great interest where the newest technologies and designs are headed, how the most advanced yachting systems are making sustainability a priority, and which luxury automobile badges are creating cool collaborations with counterparts on the water.

The result of connections to the industry and friends made along the way, NAVIS earned the privilege of touring many of the most commanding yachts collected in Port Hercule for the event. We are pleased to share with our readers the information, insights, and discoveries from our days spent immersed in the world of luxury yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show.

Bilgin’s newest 80-meter punctuation mark in the world of luxury, Leona is not only a yacht, but a home, a retreat, an experience, and an adventure, all embraced in this rich collection of design, craftsmanship, materials, and textures. It is fitting, then, that Leona’s striking hull is painted a bold shade of red. 

Leona debuted to the absolute delight of guests at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show. Flashing her commissioned logo featuring the head of a powerful lioness on the hull as well as on strategic golden badge details throughout the yacht, Leona established a position at the top of the yachting world, reigning over Port Hercule.

Leona is the second hull of Bilgin’s 263 series, sharing the same platform as sister ship Tatiana. Performance and layout are similar for these sumptuous sisters. Differences on paper are not drastic. One major variation is that Tatiana has eight cabins, while Leona sports five. Leona cleverly puts the extra space to use for two ultra-spacious main deck VIP cabins. Another is the extended owner’s deck, a spacious, private penthouse crowning the yacht. Yet another marker is the redesigned mast.

Beauty, because it is largely subjective, can be readily found, and performance comes with the price, but personality? That is something quite different. We sometimes think “Oh, that man is so handsome,” or “That woman is such a beauty,” but occasionally we admire a person more intensely because of their exceptionally charming personality, even if they lack the physical beauty so easy to appreciate.

The golden rays of the late September sun filtered through the ornate windows of Monaco's grandest establishment, Hotel de Paris. Inside, a symphony of chatter echoed, a culmination of four days filled with memories made, relationships nurtured, and novelties discovered. The essence of the Monaco yachting community was in the air, with reunions, yachts, sailing adventures, and a myriad of shared experiences. Monaco had, once again, delivered an experience that left every attendee in awe, grappling to process the whirlwind of the past few days.

For the attendees of the NAVIS Annual Dinner, the final evening in Monaco had become a cherished tradition. It was a time for retrospection and rejuvenation, where close-knit friends from the yachting community gathered to reminisce about the days gone by.
