The Aquarius Legacy Continues: Royal Huisman Unveils Aquarius II

Royal Huisman has unveiled its latest masterpiece, the 65-meter (212-foot) sailing yacht Aquarius, marking the next chapter in the shipyard's tradition of crafting custom superyachts. This performance ketch, known as Project 408, is a larger and more advanced version of the original Aquarius, delivered in 2018. The new Aquarius II showcases the culmination of experience, innovation, and dedication from a world-class team, resulting in a vessel that blends elegance, performance, and cutting-edge technology.

Owners' Satisfaction Fuels the Vision

The journey to create Aquarius II began when the owners expressed their desire for a larger yacht while retaining the features they valued in their original Aquarius. Having enjoyed their previous ketch, they worked with Royal Huisman again, collaborating with the same team to bring their vision to life. The original Aquarius was well-regarded by the owners as a world-cruising vessel, leading them to pursue a new project with expanded features and performance enhancements.

They created Aquarius II, which involved collaboration between esteemed designers and engineers. Dykstra Naval Architects led the design of this performance ketch, while Mark Whiteley crafted the onboard spaces with luxury and functionality in mind. Godfrey Cray, the owner's project manager, brought his extensive experience overseeing previous Royal Huisman builds, including Ngoni and the original Aquarius.

This experienced team worked in tandem with Royal Huisman to produce a vessel that maintains the elegance of the original Aquarius while offering innovations that enhance performance and onboard comfort.

Evolution in Design and Technology

Aquarius II offers numerous upgrades, including an increase in size to 65 meters, with more expansive social and crew areas. Lightweight Alustar® aluminum enhances performance and comfort, allowing for high-speed sailing without compromising stability or amenities. A semi-hybrid propulsion system adds a modern focus on sustainability and energy efficiency.

Advanced sail-handling systems and carbon Rondal masts and booms provide optimal sail control, ensuring maneuverability in all conditions. The yacht's lifting fin keel further enhances sailing performance by allowing flexibility in various water depths.

One of Aquarius II's defining elements is incorporating lessons learned from previous builds. Royal Huisman's focus on refining processes and integrating feedback from past projects has led to advancements in the sailing experience and overall yacht functionality. The owners' input throughout the project was vital in shaping the yacht's design and features, ensuring a personalized result that reflected their sailing preferences.

Final Stages of Completion

With Aquarius II now out of the outfitting hall, the final stages of her construction are underway. She will be transported to Amsterdam to install her carbon masts and booms, followed by sea trials to ensure all systems perform to the highest standards. Once completed, Aquarius II will be delivered to her owners, beginning her journey as one of the most sophisticated performance ketches ever built.

The launch of Aquarius II represents a significant milestone for Royal Huisman. It showcases timeless design, modern technology, and world-class craftsmanship. As she prepares for her maiden voyage, Aquarius II is set to make a lasting impact on the world of performance ketches, embodying innovation and excellence in custom yacht design.
