Feadship Project 713: A Milestone in Sustainable Yacht Design

Feadship, the renowned Dutch shipyard, has unveiled its latest marvel, the 59.50-meter Project 713. This elegant vessel, with its striking blue-grey hull and white superstructure, not only captivates the eye but also marks a significant step forward in Feadship’s quest to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. Following in the footsteps of previous projects such as Obsidian and Project 821, Project 713 embodies Feadship’s unwavering commitment to environmental and social sustainability.

Designed by Studio De Voogt, Project 713 boasts a beautifully balanced exterior profile that seamlessly marries form and function. The contemporary interior, crafted by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, reflects a modern yet timeless elegance that complements the yacht’s forward-thinking features.

Cutting-Edge Environmental Technology

One of the most notable innovations on Project 713 is its use of solar cells for auxiliary power generation, a first for Feadship. These custom-made panels, utilizing the most efficient silicon cells available, are designed for optimal performance and durability. They significantly enhance the yacht’s energy efficiency, generating up to 24 MWh annually.

Project 713 is equipped with a high-efficiency diesel-electric propulsion system and can run on non-fossil HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), aligning with all other Feadship vessels. The hull is optimized for cruising speed rather than top speed, further enhancing its efficiency. Energy for both propulsion and hotel load is supplied by four generators and a 400 kWh battery, underscoring the yacht's capability for sustainable long-distance travel.

Feadship has also prioritized sustainable materials in the construction of Project 713. The yacht is the first new-build Feadship to feature FSC-certified plantation teak for all decking. This certification ensures that the wood is harvested in an environmentally responsible and socially beneficial manner, reinforcing Feadship’s dedication to sustainable practices.

Project 713 has undergone a Yacht Environmental Transparency Index (YETI) Assessment, which evaluates the ecological impact of the yacht’s operational energy throughout its life cycle. The results are impressive, with Project 713 achieving a 35% lower impact than the average yacht in its class. This outstanding performance is attributed to its various efficiency-enhancing features, which more than compensate for the energy losses incurred by electrical conversions onboard.

Industry Innovation

Beyond its environmental advancements, Project 713 underscores the significant economic impact of the superyacht industry in the Netherlands. This sector contributes more than half of the entire maritime industry’s value in the country, driving innovation, craftsmanship, and substantial employment opportunities. From naval architecture to interior design and advanced engineering, the superyacht industry supports a wide array of skilled jobs, highlighting the intersection of tradition and modernity in Dutch maritime craftsmanship.
