Amels 6007 Begins Sea Trials: Damen Yachting's Latest 60-Metre Superyacht Ventures into Open Waters

Dawn Departure Marks New Milestone for Amels 6007

In the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday, April 16th, the sleek form of the Amels 6007 navigated the lock system at Damen Yachting's Vlissingen facility in the Netherlands. This manoeuvre marked a significant moment: the commencement of sea trials for the seventh hull in the highly successful Amels 60 Limited Editions series. As the 60-metre superyacht pointed her bow towards the open waters of the North Sea, the global yachting community took notice.

The event follows the yacht's emergence from the build shed earlier this year, signalling the final stages before her anticipated delivery in the summer of 2025. These crucial sea trials will rigorously test the vessel's performance, systems, and seakeeping capabilities, ensuring she meets the exacting standards synonymous with the Amels name.

The Evolution of an Icon: The Amels 60 Series

Launched in 2019 as the successor to the popular Amels 180, the Amels 60 series represents the next generation of the shipyard's Limited Editions philosophy. This approach cleverly balances the efficiencies of a proven technical platform with opportunities for owner customisation, resulting in shorter delivery times without compromising on pedigree Dutch quality.

The Amels 60 platform, measuring 60 meters (197 feet) in length with a generous beam of 10.4 meters (34 feet) and an internal volume of 853 GT, has quickly garnered acclaim. Previous hulls, such as the award-winning Come Together (the first of the series) and Entourage, have established the design's credentials on the world stage, winning accolades like the World Superyacht Awards. Amels 6007 builds upon this legacy, incorporating refinements and demonstrating the continued evolution of the design.

Design Pedigree: Øino Exterior Meets Eidsgaard Interior

Instantly recognisable are the sharp, architectural lines and distinctive geometric window shapes penned by renowned designer Espen Øino. This signature style gives the Amels 60 a contemporary and dynamic profile, enhanced on hull 6007 by a bright white superstructure with sophisticated black accents. The design is not merely aesthetic; the large, near full-height windows flood the interior spaces with natural light, particularly notable in the main deck owner's suite.

While Øino sculpted the exterior, the interior of Amels 6007 marks the first collaboration between Damen Yachting and the London-based studio Harrison Eidsgaard. Tasked with creating an inviting and sophisticated onboard atmosphere, the designers conceived a concept described as "beach house luxury". The emphasis is on natural materials, tactile finishes, and a warm, calming palette featuring sandy hues, beechwood, natural oak (used for wide-plank flooring and overheads), stainless steel, bronze, and subtle fluted details. The result is intended to feel like a contemporary, elegant "home away from home," offering ultimate comfort and a sense of peace.

Standout Features and Onboard Experience

Beyond the striking design, the Amels 6007 incorporates several features that enhance the onboard experience. Notably, she features the extended sundeck configuration, a popular modification first seen on hull number two, Entourage. This expansive deck, among the largest in its size class at 162 square meters, offers immense versatility. It includes zones for sunbathing, a Jacuzzi, shaded alfresco dining, a bar, BBQ, and even space for a potential touch-and-go helipad or unique gym area.

Connecting guests with the sea is paramount. The main deck owner's suite benefits from a fold-down balcony (approximately 7 square meters), offering private, uninterrupted sea views. Aft, the large swim platform (38 square meters) provides easy access to the water and leads into the beach club. This well-appointed space includes a sauna, steam shower, seating area, gym equipment, and storage for water toys, serving as a hub for relaxation and watersports. Amels 6007 also boasts a dedicated full dive centre.

Guest accommodation is designed for flexibility and comfort, sleeping up to 12 guests across six suites. This includes the main deck owner's suite, a VIP cabin, and four lower deck cabins (convertible between double and twin configurations) that offer direct indoor access to the beach club area. A crew of 13 ensures exceptional service levels.

Performance and Technology

Underpinning the luxury is robust engineering. Amels 6007 features a steel displacement hull and aluminium superstructure, crafted for stability and comfort at sea and anchor. Damen Yachting's naval architecture provides proven seakeeping characteristics.

Propulsion comes from a sophisticated hybrid diesel-electric system centred around twin MTU 12V 2000 M72 engines. This setup offers efficiency gains, reduced noise and vibration, and lower emissions, aligning with modern demands for more sustainable yachting. The yacht can cruise silently at up to 7 knots on electric power alone. Performance figures indicate a maximum speed of 15.5 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of 13 knots, delivering a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles. Her fuel capacity is 122,000 litres, complemented by 25,000 litres of fresh water storage.

Market Significance and Future Prospects

The commencement of sea trials for Amels 6007 underscores Damen Yachting's consistent delivery within its Limited Editions range. Sold by Moran Yacht & Ship, who also represented the owner during the build, the yacht is poised to enter the global fleet soon. With delivery scheduled for Summer 2025, she represents a compelling opportunity, potentially joining the charter market shortly after handover.

The continued success of the Amels 60 series, with hull 6008 already available for a 2025 delivery, highlights the enduring appeal of this platform. It combines proven Dutch shipbuilding quality, renowned design talent, and forward-thinking technology.

As Amels 6007 undergoes her final tests, the industry watches with anticipation. Her successful completion of sea trials will pave the way for final outfitting and eventual handover, adding another exceptional vessel to the prestigious Amels fleet.
