Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2022

Squarely positioned between the “M” shows of Monaco and Miami on the calendar, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show ran through its paces for the 63rd time, October 26-30, 2022. Monaco, is always an exclusive collection of brilliant, elegant, sumptuous superyachts. Think luxurious with a capital “L.” Miami is pretty much the king of the fast and the fabulous. Think flamboyance and flash. Fort

Lauderdale, however, is a show with something for everyone. Why attend, you ask?

Fort Lauderdale is just plain fun, with lots of movers and shakers from the yachting world in attendance, a sampling of some of the world’s top yacht premieres, and a 360-degree view of the complete range of ways to enjoy time in, on, under, and even over the water. This year proved no exception.

Feadship 55m Somnium

There are many ways to build a superyacht. There is only one way to build a Feadship: Yours.

Creating a pure custom Feadship masterpiece requires introspection. Working with an owner to identify what is truly desired, Feadship establishes the way forward to design, build, and deliver every detail in support of that goal, without compromise.

The result? A yacht that acts as an extension of the owner. A vessel that stands ready to serve, present at all the most important events and celebrations, from intimate family gatherings to lavish parties. A respite that quietly performs its duties with exceptional competence, focused on individual lifestyle, family, and dreams. A yacht that expresses and epitomizes your values and accomplishments.

Benetti 50m Superyacht Iryna Review

First, the answer: three to four years. Now, the question: how long does it take, on average, to build a custom superyacht? Time waits for no man. Those who subscribe to that philosophy and are in the market for a new superyacht may want to have a look at the Benetti B.Now series of customizable yachts.

Azimut/Benetti Group is one busy yacht builder, which is a very good thing. In fact, for the 21st concurrent year, Azimut/Benetti has been named the world’s leading builder of superyachts, according to the 2021 Global Order Book, for their 100 projects over 80 meters, boasting a total length of 3,521 meters. One consequence of the company’s full build schedule is that new yacht buyers have to join a rather long queue if they want to build with Benetti.

The Lobby Bar, Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo Review

Seasons change, the days now grow shorter. The early evenings might mean less daytime, but we’d like to think it means more nightlife and time for enjoyment or relaxation. Even the action in and around the Casino and along the Carré d’Or is a bit subdued. And while it is a bit chillier, as long as the mistral is not threatening from the north, evening walks are pleasant under streets festooned with the glittering lights and brilliant window displays this time of year brings. It makes us want to stop rushing around to get things done and linger to soak in the festive glow. But we digress.

It is in this most wonderful time of the year that catching up with friends old and new and there, at the end of what seems the longest, most glittering driveway is the ideal destination for this: the Métropole Monte-Carlo. Beyond its main entry’s array of terraces and colonnades, and into the grand lobby, visitors and guests are treated to impressive art installations and glorious floral presentations. These are displays that transform them into virtual Alices, and send them straight into a wonderland….of hospitality and of tastes. Here beneath a glass roof, there is a series of inviting, low-slung chairs and tables where it’s possible to partake in some imaginative libations and delicious plates, or merely just a coffee or tea in the morning. Although the hotel’s Yoshi ranks as the Cote d’Azur’s only Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant, and the pool-side Karl Lagerfeld-designed Odyssey beckons, we head straight for the less obvious, but equally auspicious, Lobby Bar.

Newfoundland sea life

An accomplished underwater videographer, Didier Noirot has a noteworthy CV detailing 44 years behind the lens. Didier has worked with Jacques Cousteau, National Geographic, Disney Nature, John Jackson (La Bête du Natal), and Jacques Perrin (Ocean), among others, earning Emmy Awards for the BBC favorite, Blue Planet, and the documentary One Life. Passionate about the ocean and the marine life it supports, Didier dedicates his time and expertise as President and co-founder of the philanthropic ocean education organization, The Balthazar Project.

Whenever one thinks of Newfoundland, one thinks of wind, fog, and cold. Strong winds allow only the hardiest vegetation to grow. What we know about Newfoundland has come from the stories of cod fishermen braving storms, or from the Titanic striking an iceberg 370 miles south of the island.

However harsh and remote, I fell in love with this island because the surrounding ocean contains the most thickly populated fishing waters in the world.
All this wealth is carried by the caplin, a small fish that feeds all the inhabitants of the ocean. Seabirds, codfish, and whales make it their main course, especially in early summer when caplin approach the coast to lay their eggs.
