Be it a birthday, an anniversary or just a specially beautiful day aboard your vessel, every sailor or yacht owner needs a ticking companion on his wrist to accurately tell time.
In the realm of yacht racing, a correctly equipped watch can make an enormous difference in aiding skippers navigate the treacherous waters from the start line until the much awaited finish line. Whether the power behind their vessels is wind in their sails or powerful and larger-than-life engines, an ally like the Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Titanio is every captain's dream.
Officine Panerai, sponsor of the Panerai Classics Yachts Challenge since 2005, the main international circuit for classic and vintage yachts, has made this dream come true. They created this magnificent watch, which features a chronograph with an automatic movement and an impressive three-day power reserve. What is more, the Luminor 1950 Flyback Regatta is fitted with a regatta countdown function.
The Luminor 1950 Regatta's intuitive controls make it a trustworthy and reliable companion. It features an orange push-button at four o'clock which moves the central orange chronograph minute hand back one minute at a time until it reaches the correct position in relation to the length of the countdown. By pushing the start/stop button at ten o'clock, the chronograph starts. First, it indicates the minutes and seconds remaining until the start and, then, when the countdown finishes, the time that has passed since the beginning of the race. All the hands of the chronograph return to zero when the button at eight o'clock is pushed.
The classic Panerai design elements can be recognized in the black dial and the lever device of the case of the Luminor 1950 Regatta 3 Days Chrono Flyback Titanio. It is made entirely of brushed titanium, a light and strong material, which creates an outstanding contrast with the polished bezel. A wide sapphire crystal window on the back shows the P.9100/R movement, with a rotor that winds the springs of the two barrels at the same time it oscillates in both direction, thus providing the watch with a power reserve of three full days.
As expected of a professional sailing instrument, the Luminor 1950 Regatta is water-resistant to 100 meters (10 bar). It belongs to Officine Panerai's Contemporary Collection and is supplied with a rubber strap with strong sport connotations, which can be easily replaced by a little tool that comes with the watch.
