The owners and design team responsible for the Wider 165 Cecilia were proud to announce a successful launch this May in Ancona, Italy. The launch event was the second for the relatively new shipbuilders and was attended by a wide variety of people including the shipyard staff, suppliers, owners, and numerous other individuals who collaborated on the project.
Cecilia is an impressive 50 meters long and has a GT just under 500. The owners presented the team with an extensive wish-list and “toys” they hoped to be included. They were significantly involved throughout the design process and, as evidenced by the remarkable success of the launch, it seems that Wider was able to effectively satisfy these specific requests.
The design team consisted of those who are working in-house for Wider, the remarkable Italian designer Fulvio de Simoni, and several other collaborators. The ship itself is made entirely of aluminum which has recently been the preferred exterior material of shipbuilders around the world.
The exterior decks are incredibly accommodating and offer features such as a helipad, a spacious beach club, a notably large Jacuzzi, and numerous others. There is also plenty of space on the exterior for lounging, socializing, or enjoying the open air.
The interior also offers a number of unique features including a sauna, a private gym, and a spacious study with a terrace. The interior is where the owner was able to be particularly involved and their input contributed to the tasteful use of materials as well as the strategic incorporation of light that can be found all throughout the indoor spaces.
One of the features of the ship that Wider prides themselves the most in is the diesel electric propulsion system. When combined with a lithium polymer battery, this propulsion system is claimed to offer an incredibly wide array of benefits including “increased reliability, fuel efficiency, greater range, shallow draft, lower noise and vibration, reduced maintenance, and greater flexibility.”
This extensive list of benefits is truly stunning and creates a strong testimony for the fact that Wider is able to reliably compete with many of the well-established names in the industry. The team also prides itself in how the all-aluminum construction is both lightweight enough to help with fuel efficiency and durable enough to withstand even the most challenging conditions at sea.
As you begin to explore the interior and exterior components of Cecilia, you will quickly begin to recognize that she is a masterpiece for the ages. The use of bright colors, light, and generous floor space make her feel as if she is even larger than her already impressive 50 meters in size. Collaborating with architects at Ideaeltalia made it possible to blend wood, glass, leather, marble and other materials in an incredibly effective way.
Overall, it seems that Cecilia is yet another embodiment of a new paradigm for yachts of this size. She was built with the principles of the 21st Century in mind while simultaneously being able to incorporate some of the most highly admired features of her successors. Wider is actively in the process of seeking new clients looking for customized yachts and, based off of what can be observed in Cecilia, they certainly seem to have a lot to look forward to.
