Rolls-Royce New Ghost

Rolls-Royce is releasing an animated video series about the next Ghost. A car that will revolutionize the way we think about luxury cars in the future.
Every week, we will be uploading a new video to this web page, disclosing the secrets of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost.

Rolls-Royce New Ghost - Part 1

Part one of an animated video series presenting the new Rolls-Royce Ghost.

Since the introduction of Ghost, which became the most successful Rolls-Royce in history, the marque’s unique proximity its clients afforded the team access to a large body of information. It revealed the divergent interests, opinions, and changing taste patterns within Ghost clients’ appreciation of luxury. This primary research allowed them to create a product myopically focussed on the requirements of these remarkable men and women. These insights were what informed the designers, engineers and craftspeople at Rolls-Royce as they moved into the development phase of the highly progressive new Ghost.

Before Rolls-Royce created the first Goodwood Ghost in 2009, significant time was invested in understanding the group of clients it was tailored to. These were men and women who held the marque’s relentless pursuit of perfection in high esteem and sought a slightly smaller, less ostentatious entry to the Rolls-Royce brand.

As with all primary research conducted by the marque’s specialists, these experts were asked to present their findings, offering a rare insight into this consumer group. In this short film, Rolls-Royce shares some of these insights to demonstrate the underlying substance of the highly progressive new Ghost ahead of its official unveiling in autumn this year.

Rolls-Royce New Ghost - Part 3

Part three of an animated video series presenting the new Rolls-Royce Ghost.

A key development was the Planar system, which is comprised of three elements. The first is an Upper Wishbone Damper unit, which is mounted above the front suspension assembly and creates an even more stable and effortless ride. The result of three years of development, this is a world-first technology. The second is the Flagbearer system, which uses cameras to read the road ahead and prepare the suspension system for any changes in road surface. The third is Satellite Aided Transmission, which draws GPS data to pre-select the optimum gear for upcoming corners. The Planar system allows new Ghost to anticipate and react to even the most demanding road surface.

During the engineering design process, new Ghost’s chassis and suspension specialists were tasked with regularly presenting the technical advances they had made to other departments, as well as showcasing how these remarkable developments met the client brief. Rolls-Royce has elected to share elements of these internal briefings to demonstrate the engineering substance that underpins this extraordinary new motor car ahead of its official unveiling in autumn this year.

Rolls-Royce formula of serenity

To achieve a sense of absolute serenity, the acoustic team began by adapting the marque’s proprietary aluminum spaceframe architecture, which itself offers benefits owing to the metal’s higher acoustic impedance compared with steel and its construction from complex forms rather than flat, resonant surfaces. A double-skinned bulkhead section was selected to insulate the cabin from the already near-silent 6.75-litre V12 engine and cavities in the roof, boot and floor were created to fill with more than 100kg (220 lbs) of sound-absorbing materials. Additionally, double-glazed windows with a clear composite center sheet were used as well as tires lined with lightweight acoustic insulation foam.
