Sea Eagle II takes to the sea

The world's largest aluminum sailing yacht, the schooner Sea Eagle II has undergone a series of successful sea trials before being delivered to her owner.

She has also entered the top 10 of the world's largest sailing yachts.

The impressive three-masted schooner has been built by Royal Huisman in the Netherlands and the stylish interior was designed by Mark Whiteley Design while the exterior was created by Dykstra Naval Architects.

She was launched in Amsterdam and it's here that her three carbon Rondal masts and booms were installed but the Covid-19 restrictions prevented the finishing touch trials in the North Sea from being completed.

Sail handling and propulsion systems have been successfully tested

Since then, the sail handling and propulsion systems have been successfully tested and signed off during trials which highlighted the potential capabilities of this 81-meter yacht.

She can achieve speeds of more than 21 knots and the 3,500 square meters of sails are distributed evenly over her carbon Panamax masts and have been made by Doyle Sails.

This is the largest yacht yet from Royal Huisman and she was commissioned by the owner of the Sea Eagle, a 43-meter sloop built by the firm in 2015.

The new commission reaffirms the owner’s confidence in the shipyard’s ability to deliver the ultimate dream yacht.

The Sea Eagle II features a plumb bow which ensures she will be recognized wherever she sails and it is this that helps to deliver her powerful performance.

There is room on board for 11 people, including the owner and guests, plus 14 crew.

Dining area with a table for up to 16 people

She features a large sun deck, an al fresco dining area with a table for up to 16 people, along with a bar and sofas.

The main saloon also features a unique sliding door that has been created by Rondal. The bulkheads feature walnut covered walls with oak flooring.

The owner and guests will also enjoy two tenders, water scooters, paddle boards and diving equipment. Guests can also enjoy the excellent views from the mainmast by using a hydraulic crow's nest.

One of the unusual and impressive features for the Sea Eagle II is that each of her Rondal masts have been built as one piece. This then delivers the strength and stiffness necessary for delivering the high levels of performance.

The carbon Panamax masts also feature furling booms, a headsail furling system, hydraulic boom vangs as well as deck winches and equipment.

All of this gear has been equipped with load-sensing capabilities, including the continuous solid carbon standing rigging by Carbo-Link.
