With a reputation for building some of the world’s largest yachts, Lurrsen’s 55.5 meter Moon Sand is the smallest yacht delivered by the shipyard this year, but a definitive step to re-establish the brand’s position in the 55 - 75 meter size bracket. The first since 1995.
Peter Lurssen, CEO, confirmed the new direction by stating, “It’s exciting to build a boat of this size. It is like going back in time.”
Moon Sand is painstakingly customised to meet the new owner’s exacting specifications and has been developed to reflect a developed sense of spatial awareness and color. The British studio responsible for the yacht’s design; Bannenburg and Rowell were inspired by the classic 1973 Lurssen yacht; Carinthia VI.
The four-deck superyacht was first seen at the end of April 2021 when she was briefly tested out on the water, and the shipyard has faced challenges of trying to squeeze all the functions and systems of 100m boat into a smaller structure. New and compact systems have been engineered by the Lurssen team and Moon Sand recently arrived in London cruising down the Thames and passing the iconic Tower Bridge.
Moon Sand is described as being truly bespoke with distinctive lines, and discussion with the new owner led to many innovations and articulate use of interior space. Interiors aboard the yacht are an exciting and not usually seen blend of colors, material, and textures designed to excite the senses. In a palette that is fearless and bold, the interior spaces of Moon Sand are further enhanced by the incorporation of museum-quality pieces to offset the boldness of the design.
Exterior spaces have been kept spacious and visually clean, and deck areas designed to enjoy unbridled ocean views. The main deck features a sparkling swimming pool, and upper decks feature expansive sun lounging areas and alfresco dining.
The 55.5m size has made full use of every single millimetre of interior and exterior space and affords the best possible luxury in its accommodations. The colors, textures, and features of Moon Sand make it a sumptuous and lavish home on the water.
