Project Cosmos has the notable honor of being the biggest and fastest all-aluminum yacht ever built. Despite her immense size, she reaches a top speed of almost 30 knots in an impressive feat of engineering. With a custom-painted bulb reminiscent of a sharp-toothed shark’s mouth, it’s clear from the off that Cosmos is a yacht to be reckoned with.
Launched in November 2021 at the Oss Shipyard, Cosmos spans lengths of almost 80-meters and provided the designers at Heesen with a challenging and complex design project. A team of builders, craftsmen, and technical experts assembled to bring Dutch-built Project Cosmos to life. The fast cruising speeds achieved by the yacht were made possible by Heesen’s naval architects and engineering team, who were able to overcome complex structural challenges.
Given the extensive length of the vessel, ensuring sufficient longitudinal strength was a primary consideration. The Heesen engineering team patented and tested an intricate reinforcement system known as the Backbone that provides Cosmos with strength and stability throughout the length of the structure. This advanced construction technique combined with a lightweight, low drag hull, and highly refined diesel propulsion systems is what provides Cosmos with its jaw-dropping speeds.
On the exterior, Cosmos reveals clean lines and the extensive use of glass that generates a sporty and distinguished silhouette that will retain timeless qualities. The British-based Winch Studio is responsible for the smooth sculpted shapes which are blended with Heesen DNA to give the yacht a futuristic air while it sits elegantly on the water. Sculptural curved forms and perfectly balanced proportions generate a unique signature that intelligently conveys an intimation of the yacht’s speed and power.
Interior design is nothing short of calm and soothing with a neutral color palette from Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design, infused with a range of tasteful blue hues. Materials like onyx, glass, and natural woods combine to create bright, airy, close-to-water spaces. The large beach club is a standout feature of the yacht with the space enhanced by side and stern platforms, and elements like a glass-bottomed pool, glass elevators, and an onyx backlit bar, blended with the elegant decor of Project Cosmos contrive to make one feel easily at home while luxuriating in any of the expansive communal or private spaces.
