Here we are, back in Marina di Carrara at the renowned expansive shipyards of The Italian Sea Group, one of the luxury yachting world’s leaders in design and refit. For some of us, it has certainly been a while, but here just half-hour north of Forte dei Marmi, it’s as if no beat has been skipped for this renowned brand. TISG is still on its pulse-raising unveil last summer of its recent collaboration with Automobili Lamborghini and its Tecnomar division: Tecnomar by Lamborghini 63. Anything that gets the press that excited is good for everyone. But as much of a commotion as that pairing of brands stirred, in the last half of 2021 came the delivery of the 3rd and 4th units of Tecnomar’s newly re-designed EVO120 series.
Your eyes dart naturally along her lines, and you take immediate notice of the asymmetrical flybridge. Once onboard, you immediately head for the sun deck and its sleek yet surprisingly comfortable lounge area aft: this is where the party is ongoing, and you don’t want to miss a minute of it.
Once Upon A Time
Some might remember the first and dazzlingly white-hulled EVO120 introduced at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show. One look at her, and you just knew she was the epitome of style, and grace? Well, she could well have been part of TISG’s classic Admiral brand, but no, she was far, far too sporty, modern, and carefree. She was that girl your parents warned you to stay away from; she ditched Uni and hurled herself straight into nautical allure. In fact, just forget it. She was far too sexy for you. There have been some changes made from the original details on her 37 meters. For one thing, the third and fourth hulls, delivered in July 2021 and this past December, are far sleeker and more streamlined.
At First Sight
Your eyes dart naturally along her lines, and you take immediate notice of the asymmetrical flybridge. Once onboard, you immediately head for the sun deck and its sleek yet surprisingly comfortable lounge area aft: this is where the party is ongoing, and you don’t want to miss a minute of it. The design is very modern, but with a fluid, organic feel so that the body does what it’s meant to do in a lounge: sink in. Here, it’s energizing and comforting without being enervating in the way some self-referencing modern design can do. The style is almost intuitive, and bodies want – no, need – to respond to that. Add to this the infinity pool, elevating tables around which to gather and dine, a corner bar plus an outdoor kitchen area, and the magic just happens and not even the rain will dampen this. There is a soft-top covering that can be extended at a touch of a button to cast sheltering care over your guests. Directly, above, you’ll also find the wheelhouse, perched up at the highest point and, again, right above where all the action is going on.
Arguably there’s no finer place to be than here.
Not to be outdone, however, is the split-level lounge area gracing the foredeck. Walkways in the palest teak lead to the bow from the sun deck. Add more of that teak on the curved twin staircases that lead to the aft cockpit. There’s more of serene feel, less-party atmosphere here. It’s intimate, peaceful, and so, so very pale. A good reason to continue with the flutes of champagne, you say to yourself. Throughout, the furnishings are custom with a palette that evokes serenity with hints of warm whites and neutrals, and with supple textiles used in upholstered pieces and along the walls. Everything is soft and curvy, and the only angles or extreme edges you’ll see anywhere are the slabs of precious Carrara marble from nearby Viareggio, which bring an entirely new level to the phrase “locally-sourced.”
The salon on the main deck is quite the same in its design appeal. Here the dining area melds with the living area to keep everyone together and the interaction -- or restful relaxation -- ongoing. And, referencing its Italian heritage, you’ll find a tripped-out kitchen here, with features aimed to please everyone. Her curvy lines continue here as well, undulating their way throughout the open space so that, quite honestly, they will make you either forget about your city-center penthouse or, alternately, have you dreaming of this yacht and its sleek kitchen nightly, when you’re up at 3 AM feeling peckish.
Deep in the Heart
When you do feel like turning in for the night, the full-beam owner’s cabin, and the sleeping quarters – all en suite, by the way -- are below the main deck. There’s also a VIP cabin and layout options for a lucky owner to choose either one or two additional twin guest cabins, for you and 4 of your BFFs and their nearest and dearest to enjoy. Evo120 is a semi-custom model and, if you’re a tiny bit selfish, you can opt for a total of just 3 cabins. You’ll always need a massage room, right? And a sauna is very useful, of course.
Whichever layout you choose, you’re not starved for space. The showers in the en suites are all spacious. Storage and built-ins are all quite cleverly planned, and the design is never too obvious. What is obvious is that care has been taken to ensure the layout and furnishings are ingeniously wholistic and very plush. Even the headboards are lusciously quilted. The Tecnomar design team advises us that despite her semi-custom options, EVO120’s furnishings are custom, so your options are virtually limitless. The crew quarters -- to accommodate a staff of 5 -- are located in the bow. This leaves the stern for accommodate some VVIPs (very, very important playthings…oh, yes, and a tender). The garage can fit up to 4.5 meters of essentials.
