In a innovative engineering design concept, Tankoa Yachts has incorporated a hybrid propulsion system on their second yacht; Project S501. While the fuel-efficient, environmental-friendly system allows different sailing and cruising modes to be selected, it also has the benefit of extending the lifespan of serviceable equipment such as generators, can increase sailing comfort at different times, and allows access to protected areas that are inaccessible to other vessels.
The hybrid system from MAN and Siemans means that it is possible to select between cruising modes of traditional diesel, diesel-electric, and full electric. Tankoa’s CEO Vincenzo Poerio is committed to meeting the needs of the most sophisticated yacht owners, and the hybrid all-aluminum hull designed by Francesco Paszkowski underwent her technical launch in March.
Along with Project S501’s state-of-the-art propulsion system, there are some other forward-thinking innovations with hull #4 being the first in the series to include a swimming pool on the main deck. Delivery is scheduled for late April and outfitting of the yacht will continue at the Tankoa shipyard until completion.
As a boutique shipyard, Tankoa still has its sights set on expansion, with an increasing workforce and the recent acquisition of a new facility, production capacity will be expanded. Operating costs will be spread over an increased number of projects and the company will offer even more in terms of customization and will be focused on establishing and differentiating the Tankoa brand as it increases its market segment.
New business plans will allow multiple projects to run simultaneously with up to 4 hulls in the outfitting phase and two new projects to be under construction at any one time. The yard's commitment to technological advancements and fast delivery will remain with projects continuing to be built on speculation to promote the most efficient use of resources and deliver finished projects in as little as 12 months.
