Canados Launches Oceanic’s Range New 143’ Flagship

The Iconic Roman Shipyard will be officially launching its new Oceanic Line Flagship, the 143’ Tri-Deck, at the upcoming fall Boat Shows. The Oceanic 143’ Tri-Deck was designed and engineered in-house, and features luxury interiors by Michela Reverberi Design from Rome. With a top-end speed of 24 knots and long-range capabilities, the Oceanic 143’ is the perfect blend of luxury and practicality. Outdoor entertainment spaces are another feature that sets this ship apart from the competition. The Oceanic 143’ Tri-Deck will dock on July 20 and undergo sea trials afterward.

On a 43-meter luxury yacht, achieving a speed of 24 knots was not possible with a displacement hull. A typical planning hull could not be used since it would not offer the required stability at displacement/slow speeds. To reduce weight, the hull was entirely built in E-Glass and Vinylester resin while the superstructure is made of Kevlar/Aramat. This solution considerably reduces maintenance costs, ages better, and has a much higher impact resistance compared to steel or aluminum. The Oceanic particular hull architecture, named by Canados Technical Office as “Displanning”, offers the speed of a conventional planning hull and the comfort of a displacement hull at low speeds.

Piloting a tri-deck yacht measuring 43 meters in length and 8.2 meters in width at 24 knots is no easy feat. The Oceanic 143' is equipped with three of Caterpillar's all-new C32 B-Series 12-cylinder 3-Turbo engines, each developing 2400 hp. Another goal was to make the boat capable of sustained travel at low speeds for long crossings, so the center engine gearbox is equipped with an intercooler allowing it to run on just the side engines at low rpm from eight knots, consuming only 40 liters per hour. This performance is made possible by the design of the bulbous bow, which increases the length of the waterline by approximately 5 meters. This also significantly reduces pitching in rough seas. For both performance and practicality, the three shafts are installed in tunnels, allowing the draft to be reduced to about 2 meters. This allows the boat to anchor close to the shore.

In order to compensate for the potential balance issues posed by the forward placement of the superstructure, the hull architecture was designed to reduce the buoyancy of the aft section of the hull. This was achieved by creating two massive steps and by reducing the hull volume aft, which lowered the buoyancy. The engines were installed as close to the transom as possible, necessitating the use of U-Drive gearbox systems.

The boat's stability was essential for its modern owner, so the boat had to be the most stable of its kind. At 24 knots, fins are not the ideal solutions and Canados therefore called for an Australian made 4-tons Veem® VG 145 SD gyroscope to be installed underneath the central tender bay (for a 6-meter tender). Additionally, the entire first section of the hull is equipped with an integral keel. Finally, the 32,000-liter or 8450 US Gallons or 32 m3 8-fuel tanks are all structural, allowing for a lower barycenter.

The Oceanic 143’ Tri-Deck was designed with noise reduction in mind, both at anchor and underway. Particular attention was paid to sound insulation, with the philosophy that moving noisy elements as far away from guests and owners’ accommodation would create the best possible noise-reduced environment. Aft positioning of the engine room, where three generators are also installed (2x 100-kW and a 50-kW night generator), was a major step in reducing noise dispersion. The VIP suites on the lower deck are located approximately 11 meters from the engine room, and are separated from the engines by three structural bulkheads. The main deck saloon is located above the guest cabins, and is isolated from the noise of the engines by two structural bulkheads. The top deck is entirely private, and at full speed the only noise will be from the air conditioning system and sound speakers.

The Oceanic 143' Tri Deck yacht is a spacious and comfortable vessel that boasts unique outdoor areas. The aft deck features an infinity pool, oversized lounge, game and coffee tables, bar with summer kitchen, and dining table for 12 people. The deck area totals over 105 square meters, making it the perfect space for entertaining guests.The Sun Deck on this yacht is a stunning 70 m2, and comes complete with a bar, sun pad, and wing stations. There is also a Turkish bath inside the mast, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the incredible views. For the more active guests, there is a fully equipped gym with electric cars that can be unloaded onto the dock.
