A Showcase of Luxury and Innovation in Yachting Monaco Yacht Show 2024

Arriving in Monte Carlo is always a moment of awe, but arriving at sunset on September 24th for the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 elevated that feeling to something truly unforgettable. From my vantage point high above Port Hercules, the golden light bathed the principality’s iconic skyline, the historic Monaco Rock standing tall as a centuries-old sentinel overlooking the harbor. Below, nestled against the deep blue waters, a dazzling fleet of the world’s most exceptional yachts were docked, their sleek hulls gleaming in the fading sunlight.

As I made my way toward the harbor, my eyes were immediately drawn to some of the most remarkable vessels on display. In a commanding position at the cruise line dock was Lürssen’s 112-meter Renaissance, a symbol of pure opulence. Just ahead of her sat Oceanco’s striking 90-meter DAR, a yacht that effortlessly married contemporary elegance with groundbreaking design. Yet it was the newly launched Lürssen 122-meter Kismet that truly stole the show, her majestic presence and cutting-edge features making her the undisputed star of this year’s event.

The atmosphere in Monte Carlo that evening was a perfect balance of calm anticipation and understated elegance. A gentle breeze stirred the Mediterranean air as I prepared for the show’s opening festivities. After a quick refresh, I made my way to Équivoque Rooftop Bar, where Lusben hosted an exclusive sunset cocktail reception. As live music drifted across the terrace, the setting sun reflected off the superyachts below, and the mood was one of quiet sophistication. This was the perfect opportunity to reconnect with colleagues from the industry, enjoying fine food and conversation as we looked ahead to the days of luxury and innovation that awaited us.

Lürssen Kismet 122m superyacht docked at Monaco Yacht Show 2024

The showstopper of the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 was undoubtedly Lürssen’s newly launched 122-meter superyacht, Kismet. Making her world premiere, Kismet was a display of technical innovation, cutting-edge design, and luxury at its finest. Lürssen’s mastery of technical innovation, cutting-edge design, and luxury at its finest. According to Peter Lürssen, Managing Partner, the successful execution of such a comprehensive project required an excellent team, and it was evident that Kismet was the product of top-tier collaboration between Lürssen, Nuvolari Lenard, and Reymond Langton Design.

At 122 meters in length and with a gross tonnage of 4,918 GT, Kismet is just under the 5,000 GT mark. She features a pioneering propulsion system that allows her to cruise for 15 minutes on electrical power alone—a feat of sustainable engineering.

Another standout feature is her 4.9 x 1.3-meter single-pane glass transom, the largest ever fitted on a yacht, a triumph of both design and functionality.

Carlo Nuvolari, from Nuvolari Lenard, noted that Kismet was particularly rewarding to design due to the owner’s deep understanding of both technical and stylistic elements. The yacht’s design invites her owners and guests on a journey through time and space, with each area defined by unique themes and inspirations. Pascale Reymond, of Reymond Langton Design, described Kismet as a time capsule, taking guests from the lavish parties of Versailles to the glamorous, Art Deco elegance of 1920s Hollywood.

Feadship

Concept C (75 meters)

One of the most anticipated unveilings at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show was Feadship’s visionary Concept C, marking an important milestone in the brand’s illustrious 75-year history. This 75-meter motoryacht seamlessly merges Feadship’s rich heritage with cutting-edge technology and avant-garde design, offering a glimpse into the future of luxury yachting while paying tribute to the past.

Concept C, named in honor of Feadship’s Diamond Anniversary, draws inspiration from the periodic symbol for carbon—an element central to the creation of diamonds, reflecting both the brand’s 75th anniversary and a play on words: “see” and “sea.”

Designed by Studio De Voogt, the yacht showcases a harmonious blend of Feadship’s timeless elegance and the forward-thinking innovations that have propelled the brand to the forefront of yachting design.

At the heart of Concept C is a strong commitment to sustainability. Continuing Feadship’s quest for eco-friendly solutions, C features a fully electric propulsion system with inline contra-rotating propellers, an evolution from Feadship’s groundbreaking Breathe concept, first introduced in 2010. A similar system, installed on Feadship’s Savannah in 2015, has proven its efficiency over thousands of nautical miles. Feadship’s Knowledge & Innovation team projects that C will be 30 percent more efficient than a typical yacht of her size, thanks to her advanced hull shape and energy-efficient propulsion.

Powered by fuel cells running on renewable methanol, C operates with zero harmful emissions and without vibration, ensuring a smooth, silent cruising experience. Both the centerline propeller and thruster are electric, drawing energy from an efficient DC electrical grid. This level of innovation allows for greater efficiency and sustainability, making C one of the most environmentally conscious superyachts ever conceived.

Heesen Yachts

Project Monte-Carlo (62 meters)

Heesen Yachts unveiled one of their most ambitious projects to date—the 62-meter Steel FDHF superyacht, codenamed Project Monte-Carlo. This groundbreaking vessel, designed by the British studio Harrison Eidsgaard, was introduced during Heesen’s press conference at the Hotel Hermitage in Monaco, signaling a bold new direction for the renowned Dutch shipyard.

Project Monte-Carlo is a response to the evolving demands of modern superyacht owners who seek to spend extended periods onboard, often blending leisure and work. With a four-deck design, this superyacht offers an unprecedented amount of space, optimizing luxury, privacy, and functionality in every area. At over 1,200 GT, she will be one of the largest yachts by volume ever constructed in Heesen’s Oss shipyard, underscoring the scale of innovation involved in her creation.

One of the standout features of Project Monte-Carlo is the entire deck dedicated to the owner. The deck includes a lavish master suite and an expansive office area, allowing the owner to transition seamlessly between work and relaxation. With flexible layout options, the space can be customized further, expanding the master suite to include a private foredeck, complete with its own sundeck, jacuzzi, and a fold-down balcony that opens starboard. This design allows the owner to step directly from their office onto the balcony, enjoying sweeping views of the sea in total privacy.

Another key feature of Project Monte-Carlo is the 23-square-metre pool, designed with glass sides that create the illusion of swimming directly in the sea. The fold-down wings on the aft deck further enhance this connection to the water, allowing guests to relax right at the water’s edge.

Mangusta Yachts

Mangusta Oceano 52 (52 meters)

Mangusta Yachts unveiled the highly anticipated Mangusta Oceano 52. Developed jointly by Overmarine’s Engineering Department and renowned designer Alberto Mancini, this 52-meter displacement yacht is a continuation of the design evolution seen in the Mangusta Oceano 39 and Mangusta Oceano 44 models. With her sleek, streamlined lines and imposing presence, Mangusta Oceano 52 redefines what is possible in the under-500 GT category.

Stefano Arlunno, President of Mangusta Americas, underscored the importance of innovation in the development of this project. After a thorough market analysis, Mangusta sought to redefine the 500 GT segment, incorporating unprecedented features that elevate the yacht’s modularity and functionality to the level of a much larger vessel. “Across all decks, innovation and modularity allow the owner to enjoy the lifestyle of a mega yacht,” noted Arlunno, who personally supervised the project alongside Mangusta’s engineering team.

Currently under construction at Overmarine’s shipyard in Pisa, the first unit of the Mangusta Oceano 52 is a steel and aluminum displacement yacht that offers exceptional flexibility in layout and design. Thanks to a meticulous study of glazed surfaces and innovative technical solutions, the decks are obstacle-free, ensuring a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. This design creates an onboard lifestyle more akin to what one would expect from a 60-meter yacht, maximizing both space and comfort.

Tankoa Yachts

Elegant infinity pool on Tankoa T520 Fenice superyacht

T520 Fenice (52 meters)

At the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show, Tankoa Yachts introduced the next evolution in its dynamic Fenice line with the unveiling of the T520 Fenice, a 52-meter superyacht that captures the grace and charm of her larger predecessor, the T680 Fenice.

Designed once again by Enrico Gobbi of the Venetian studio Team for Design, T520 Fenice brings the same level of ingenuity and elegance to the 50-meter segment where Tankoa has long established its strength.

Designed with proportional harmony in mind, T520 Fenice strikes a balance between sleek, elegant lines and generous onboard spaces, making her an ideal yacht for owners who desire a balance of style and comfort. Enrico Gobbi described the yacht’s lines as “dynamic and fluid,” reflecting an automotive influence that imbues the yacht with a sense of lightness and agility. The grey hull with anthracite accents enhances this aesthetic, reminiscent of luxury car design, while preserving the luxurious appeal of a superyacht.

One of the standout features of T520 Fenice is her stern area, designed with a thoughtful arrangement of interconnected spaces on different levels. The panoramic cockpit offers commanding views of the water and overlooks a stunning infinity pool, which is flanked by two large sunpads at the aft. A watercourse flows through the pool, connecting it to the beach club below via optional transverse stairs between the cockpit and the pool—an architectural element that creates a dramatic three-dimensional effect across the yacht’s aft. The result is a fluid connection between the cockpit, beach club, swim platform, and even the lower-deck gym, ensuring that every guest on board can easily engage with the yacht’s open, social spaces.

ICON Yachts

ICON Yachts Project MASTER 70m exploration yacht at Monaco

Project MASTER (70 meters)

ICON Yachts revealed their latest collaboration with the world-renowned design studio Winch Design—the 70-meter Project MASTER. Originally conceived as an offshore rescue and standby vessel, MASTER has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a luxury exploration yacht capable of venturing into the most remote and uncharted corners of the globe. With a massive volume of nearly 3,000 GT, Project MASTER demonstrates ICON Yachts’ ability to reimagine vessels while maintaining their rugged heritage.

Project MASTER was first introduced at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show, with acclaimed designer Espen Øino responsible for her new exterior design. While much of the original platform and superstructure remain intact, Øino’s vision includes a new, extended stern section that features cutting-edge Voith eVSP propellers and a spacious aft swim platform, bringing the yacht to an impressive total length of 70 meters. This extension not only enhances the vessel’s aesthetic appeal but also its functionality, ensuring that she is perfectly equipped for long-range expeditions in challenging environments.

The interior design, reimagined by Winch Design, creates a luxurious yet functional sanctuary that blends exploration with comfort. Jim Dixon, Managing Partner & Creative Director of Yachts & Aviation at Winch Design, describes MASTER as the ultimate platform for discovering uncharted territories. “At the heart of the design is a constant connection with the surrounding seascape, and an ambience of social relaxation and adventurous episodes,” Dixon explains. The interiors are crafted to inspire a deep connection with the ocean, with each space designed to enhance the experience of discovery.

Designed to be a family-friendly sanctuary, MASTER offers spaces for relaxation and social gatherings, with an emphasis on both luxury and practicality. The yacht is envisioned as a place where guests can launch adventures and create unforgettable experiences while maintaining a constant connection to the natural world. The extended aft swim platform not only enhances the vessel’s silhouette but also serves as a gateway to the ocean, allowing for seamless transitions from onboard comfort to marine exploration.

This ambitious project underscores ICON Yachts’ expertise in refitting and transforming vessels, while Winch Design has ensured that her interiors reflect both the vessel’s history and her future as an extraordinary explorer yacht.

IYC at the Monaco Yacht Show: Market Insights, Charter Trends, and New Partnerships

At this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, IYC—one of the leading global yacht brokerage firms—hosted an exclusive breakfast aboard the stunning superyacht King Benji, where they presented key insights on the state of the yachting market and shared exciting updates about their expanding partnerships. As a major force in the luxury yachting industry, IYC continues to influence both the sales and charter sectors, managing a fleet of over 160 yachts and shaping trends worldwide.

IYC Yacht Charter Market Report

State of the Market: A Shift in Sales Trends (2019–2024)

The presentation began with a deep dive into the current state of the superyacht market, offering a comprehensive analysis of sales from 2019 to 2024 (YTD). In 2024, total yacht sales reached 469 units, a figure that reflects about 70% of the total sales from the same period in 2023. However, IYC has remained strong, responsible for the sale of 33 of these yachts, including six new-build projects—demonstrating their ability to navigate even the most challenging market conditions with success.

While sales have slowed compared to previous years, IYC’s performance highlights their dominance and strategic positioning in the market, allowing them to meet the needs of both buyers and builders during a period of increased volatility.

Charter Market Trends: Summer and Winter Bookings

Following the sales market overview, IYC presented valuable insights into the charter market, highlighting regional booking trends and shifts in consumer behavior for both the summer and upcoming winter charter seasons.

For the 2024 summer charter season, the East Mediterranean (particularly Greece, Croatia, and Turkey) led the market, securing the highest number of bookings. Greece emerged as the most popular destination, continuing its reign as the #1 charter hotspot. Despite slower booking rates in the West Mediterranean (France, Italy, Spain), market share remained consistent with 2023 figures. The Bahamas and New England also showed solid performance, maintaining booking levels in line with last year.

However, IYC noted a key shift in the market, with a rise in last-minute bookings and discounted charter offers as yacht owners and clients adapted to fluctuating market conditions. This reflects the industry’s growing flexibility in response to economic and travel trends, with clients increasingly seeking value and spontaneity in their luxury yacht charters.

Looking ahead to the winter 2024/25 charter season, early bookings are signaling a slower start. The Bahamas and New England continue to dominate, accounting for 77% of the winter bookings, while Southeast Asia has already reached 92% of last year’s bookings, indicating strong demand for exotic winter charters in the region. Despite the lower figures, IYC remains optimistic about growth in the winter market as clients seek warmer, more adventurous destinations for their winter escapes.

Key Announcements: New Partnerships and Expansions

In addition to their market insights, IYC made several important announcements during the presentation, underscoring their ongoing expansion and strategic partnerships.

One of the most notable developments is IYC’s exclusive appointment as the commercial agent for Sunreef Yachts in the UK. Sunreef, known for its innovative eco-friendly catamarans and luxury yachts, is a perfect fit for IYC’s commitment to delivering the finest yachting experiences. This partnership strengthens IYC’s position in the UK market and adds an exciting new dimension to their offerings.
Moreover, IYC announced their global partnership with Moonen Yachts, a Dutch shipyard renowned for crafting elegant, high-quality superyachts. This collaboration further expands IYC’s portfolio of exceptional yachts, allowing them to offer more bespoke options for their discerning clientele.

As IYC continues to build on their reputation as a leader in both the brokerage and charter markets, their partnerships with Sunreef and Moonen Yachts reflect the company’s forward-thinking approach and ability to adapt to changing market demands while maintaining their commitment to luxury and excellence.

A Glamorous Touch: JCraft’s Torpedo Boats

JCraft Torpedo 42-foot luxury speedboat cruising in Monaco Bay

Adding a touch of glamour and exclusivity to IYC’s presence at the show, two 42-foot JCraft Torpedo boats were used to transport guests to and from yachts docked in Monaco’s bay. These beautifully crafted vessels not only exemplified timeless elegance but also highlighted the seamless integration of luxury lifestyle with high performance. The JCraft Torpedo, with its sleek design and superior handling, was the perfect companion for shuttling VIPs in true style, offering guests an unforgettable experience as they navigated between the yachts and the port.

Designed to offer impeccable stability and effortless control, the Torpedo’s Volvo Penta IPS pod system provided smooth and graceful maneuvering, whether cruising at high speeds or docking alongside superyachts. With its understated elegance, the Torpedo is a symbol of luxury yachting lifestyle, allowing for confident, crew-less navigation along the Mediterranean coast. Guests were able to enjoy the stunning views of Monaco Bay aboard these stylish vessels, which served as a fitting complement to IYC’s prestigious offerings at the show.

Project Habacoa: A Revolutionary Superyacht Marina Development

Project Habacoa, Lunch and Glamour at the Monaco Yacht Show

Among the many exciting announcements at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, Project Habacoa undoubtedly captured the attention of the yachting world. At a private lunch in one of Monte-Carlo’s finest restaurants, hosted by Ra’anan Ben-Zur, the visionary founder of Habacoa, industry insiders were treated to a preview of what promises to be North America’s largest and most luxurious superyacht marina when it opens in 2027.

Despite a staggering 400% growth in superyacht development since 2000, docking infrastructure has struggled to keep pace. Yacht owners often find themselves docking in industrial zones or shipyards that fall far short of the luxury experience they expect. Habacoa seeks to redefine the marina experience, blending essential functionality with ultra-luxury hospitality and amenities.

Set to feature 150 slips ranging from 18 meters to over 200 meters, the marina will be the centerpiece of a larger development, which includes exclusive residences, a five-star hotel, and a host of premium services. Yacht owners can expect in-slip utilities, diesel refueling, a 200-unit dry stack facility, and a comprehensive one-stop-shop provisioning center. The vision behind Habacoa also includes a commitment to sustainability, with Zaha Hadid Architects tasked with designing the marina’s iconic buildings, blending the signature flowing forms and organic shapes that Hadid was known for, while integrating environmentally responsible materials.

With construction set to begin in 2025, Habacoa is positioned to be a revolutionary solution to the global superyacht berth shortage, setting a new standard in luxury, sustainability, and accessibility. As Ra’anan Ben-Zur confidently shared during the presentation, Habacoa will not only meet the needs of the growing superyacht fleet but also elevate the marina experience to an unprecedented level of sophistication and service.

The NAVIS Annual Dinner: A Tradition of Excellence at Pavyllon Monte-Carlo

NAVIS Annual Dinner at Pavyllion_Monte-Carlo

As the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show drew to a close, one final event remained: the highly anticipated NAVIS Annual Dinner, an exclusive gathering of yacht owners and industry leaders. Every year, this unforgettable evening serves as a celebration of the show’s success and a platform for discussing the future of luxury yachting. This year’s dinner took place at the prestigious Pavyllon Monte-Carlo, a restaurant by the celebrated Yannick Alléno, nestled in a prime location overlooking Port Hercules. With its chic interiors designed by Chahan Minassian, the setting was as refined and luxurious as the yachts that had been on display throughout the week.

Pavyllon Monte-Carlo offers a perfect blend of sophistication and accessibility, embodying the spirit of the Principality. The ambiance, with its signature bar and modern yet informal mood, created a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere that complemented the evening’s discussions. Guests were treated to Yannick Alléno’s free-spirited and refined cuisine, which highlighted the flavors of the Riviera, crafted from local ingredients in perpetual renewal. The menu showcased a variety of exquisite dishes—from the delicate San Remo prawn cocktail to the indulgent basil and lemon pasta gratin with bottarga, each dish an expression of the chef’s passion for innovation and taste.

Amidst the culinary delights, the conversation at the dinner table was focused on a topic that has become increasingly vital to the future of yachting: “The Evolution in Superyacht Propulsion Energy.” NAVIS Magazine’s tradition of proposing a thoughtful subject for discussion at each Annual Dinner ensures that the evening is more than just a celebration—it’s a chance to generate positive action within the industry. This year’s discussion explored the promising advances in fuel cells, hydrogen, methanol, solar energy, and other emerging technologies. With the goal of achieving zero emissions in superyachts, these innovations represent the future of sustainable luxury at sea, and the leaders seated at the table hold the power to shape that future.

The evening was a perfect balance of camaraderie, knowledge sharing, and a commitment to sustainability, all enhanced by Pavyllon’s unforgettable menu.

The NAVIS Annual Dinner remains one of the most cherished traditions at the Monaco Yacht Show. It is an evening where decisions are made that will positively impact the future of the luxury yachting sector. As the conversations flowed late into the night, the focus on sustainability and the future of propulsion technologies underscored the growing commitment among superyacht owners and builders to lead the way in reducing the industry’s environmental impact.

This year’s dinner was a fitting conclusion to a week of innovation, luxury, and forward-thinking at the Monaco Yacht Show. And as NAVIS Magazine prepares to publish a full gastronomic review of Pavyllon in its upcoming edition, it is clear that this year’s dinner—like those before it—was an unforgettable experience that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the Monaco Yacht Show: excellence, friendship, and a vision for the future.
